Bacup Zine is created by people from the local community when they take part in the workshops or by sending a submission via e-mail.

The workshop for the second edition of Bacup Zine takes place on Saturday July 11, 2026. Drop in any time between 12-17 h at The BCC (formerly named The ABD Centre) on Burnley Road, Bacup, OL13 8AB, in Lancashire. This is free to attend and includes all materials/tools as well as refreshments. For adults, and for children age 10 and older (under 16s must be accompanied).

You are also more than welcome to submit something digitally (via e-mail) at any time. Especially longer written contributions are more suited to digital submission rather than creating at a workshop, so if you'd like to write something for the zine, do feel free to do this outside of the workshops. Please contact me to discuss your ideas.

There's a bunch of topics I think would be lovely to feature in a next edition of the zine, so if you are looking for something to write about, why not consider something from the list below? If you intend to commit to doing one of these ideas, could you please e-mail me so we can discuss your approach/progress and I can remove the idea from this page, so we do not get multiple people doing the same thing? Thanks!

Topics/ideas:
  • An article about the local football club
  • A short story taking place in Bacup
  • An article about the local rugby club
  • Residents' ideas/dreams for Bacup (many people can contribute to this and it can be as short as just one sentence, or it could be a max. 250 word piece for one idea; it doesn't have to be realistic or something that can actually be done)
  • An article about the local cricket club
  • An article and/or photo showcase of a local artist or tradesperson
  • A poem about Bacup
  • An article/feature about Bacup Pride
  • An article about Orthoplastics, maker of materials for medical devices/implants (if they are interested)
  • An interview with a Bacup (or very nearby areas) resident about their job or hobby
  • An article about a local landmark whether derelict or still in use
  • An article about a local pub
  • An article about the Royal Court Theatre and/or about a specific show/performance there
  • Any article about local news that's not featured anywhere else
  • Something about the new amateur theatre group in Bacup
  • ...
